=Hyangnimsa Temple: A Contemporary Temple Bridging Education and Buddhist Tradition=

== Narrative ==
Located on the slopes of Baekseoksan Mountain in Gwangju, [[향림사|Hyangnimsa Temple]] was founded in 1967 by the Buddhist monk [[천운|Cheonun (1932-2010)]]. In the 1960s, Cheonun had served as the head monk of Hwaeomsa Temple in Gurye and Daeheungsa Temple in Haenam. After establishing Hyangnimsa, he laid the foundation for modern Buddhist practice in the Gwangju area. In 1983, he founded [[향림유치원|Hyangnim Kindergarten]] and [[향림어린이집|Hyangnim Daycare Center]], and later established [[향림출판사|Hyangnim Publishing House]] and [[광주불교대학|Gwangju Buddhist College]], actively engaging in education, propagation, and social welfare.

The temple houses the ''[[광주 향림사 소장본 조상경|Sutras on the Production of Buddhist Images]]'', which has been designated as a [[광주광역시 유형문화유산|Gwangju Tangible Cultural Heritage]]. This text is a ritual manual that systematically records the procedures and ceremonies involved in the creation of Buddhist images. It is a rare first edition printed from woodblocks carved in 1575 at Yongcheonsa Temple in Damyang, with only three known copies remaining in Korea. This exemplifies Hyangnimsa’s role not only as a modern Buddhist temple but also as an institution dedicated to the preservation and transmission of Buddhist cultural heritage.
