In Buk-gu, Gwangju, several roads are named after individuals who helped shape the city’s cultural and historical legacy. Jeong Ji (1347-1391), a military official from the late period of the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392), is honored through Gyeongyeol-ro Road, which runs near Gyeongyeolsa Shrine and his tomb. Yi Seon-je (1389-1453), a high-ranking official in the early period of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), is remembered through Pilmun-daero Road and his shrine in perpetuity. Go Gyeong-myeong (1533-1592), a righteous army leader during the Japanese invasions of 1592-1598, is commemorated through Jebong-ro Road and enshrined at Pochungsa Shrine.
